To me this shows the tree having hands, as he's grabbing the stones to stop himself from growing any quicker.

I like gnarly old trees. There is a twisted tree near here but I have never found it. I must seek it out and take some piccies, I reckon you would like it...
Me too, gnarly trees have an age to them, like wisdom...their spirits come out the older they get. There is so much character to an older, gnarly tree than a young one. IMHO anyway !
